The Purpose of the Law

Image
Galatians  3:16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.  3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.  3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.  3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Introduction The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Galatians is a three-fold letter. The first two chapters are Personal and here, Paul discusses his life before salvation as a Pharisee, his zeal about the Law, his passion about wiping out Christ and the name Christ from off the surface of the earth and then his call as an A

Alcohol Consumption and Cancer : The Facts

Image
Introduction Alcohol is a psychoactive substance with dependence-producing properties that has been widely used in many cultures for centuries. The harmful use of alcohol causes a large disease, social and economic burden in societies. Alcohol causes as much harm as smoking and hypertension. While moderate alcohol use may offer some health benefits, heavy drinking — including binge drinking — has no health benefits. Alcohol use has been linked to several types of cancer and other health risks, but this is complicated by the fact that low-to-moderate alcohol intake has been linked with a lower risk of heart disease. Still, lowering the risk of heart disease is not a compelling reason for adults who don’t drink alcohol to start. There are many ways to reduce heart disease risk, including avoiding smoking, eating a diet low in saturated and trans fats, staying at a healthy weight, staying physically active, and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol. Debunking the "Jesus-Plus" Myth. Part 1

Galatians  1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. A Background . The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Galatians was written to condemn a false gospel that was gradually being spread by false teachers who were present in the Church. The message being preached by these false teachers is essentially a Gospel of Salvation by Works; though they recognized the need for faith in Christ for salvation, they maintained that faith alone is not enough and that one must add to the faith, the rites, rituals and observances of the laws of Moses

Of Pain, Loss, War and its aftermath

Image
There is no poetry in pain... Or words spoken in rhythmic cadence There is no poetry in pain Only sighs and tears and a heart fit to burst There is no beauty in war Or glory in a bloodsoaked erstwhile green field There is no beauty in war Only men hollowed by the trauma of a needless loss There is no understanding of this Pain and loss and war waged in my mind Screaming yet not heard Numbed by the deluge of relentless thoughts thoughts too bizarre to be spoken

Reconciliation

Image
2 Corinthians  5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation In these verses from 2Corinthians chapter 5, the gospel-the message of Christianity is summarized quite beautifully. Here, the vital components of the gospel are put together wonderfully with the responsibility that the knowledge of the Gospel places upon one clearly stated. The very first phrase destroys every doctrine that seeks to elevate man's ability, his worthiness or his efforts in securing salvation for his soul. Salvation is entirely a gift of God. God is the source... The one who initiated the plan of redemption. All things are of God. All things concerning reconciliation between a Holy God and a sinful world can only be by the sovereign Grace of a lov

On Cultural Paranoia

Image
In their 1968 book titled Black Rage , William H Grier and Price M Cobbs introduced the concept of Cultural Paranoia into Psychiatry. Described as an adaptive and healthy response to racial discrimination and oppression, cultural paranoia is marked by an almost obsessive fixation on cultural mistrust of the black American to the White man. Among the Yoruba of Nigeria, there is a similar pervasive cultural paranoia however, in this case, the Yoruba does not suspect just someone from another race or culture but anyone apart from himself. This attitude is marked by sentiments such as "trust no man", "every man for himself", etc. The worldview of the Yoruba is characterized by a constant struggle between forces of good and forces of evil and man is caught in the very centre of this struggle. It is believed that human beings can aid and abet the forces of evil and direct their maliciousness against a man thus it is believed that one must be careful and give the &
